I’ve been thinking a lot about the young kids involved in the tragedy of Ian Wells’ case. It just completely baffles me how easily these teenagers got involved in such a serious crime at such a young age. I mean, what drives them to think stealing a gun was worth it? I can't help but feel so deeply for Ian and his family, especially his sister Imani. Losing a sibling is unimaginable, and under these horrific circumstances, it's just so unfair. It makes me wonder how we, as a society, can do better in offering guidance and support to our youth before they make such irreversible decisions. Something really needs to change here. We should be providing safe spaces for these kids to express themselves and have access to mentors who can guide them away from this path of violence. It’s devastating when lives are lost and futures are wasted. I hope the awareness around this case will help create the change Ian’s mother, Karen, is calling for. They deserve justice, and more importantly, a shift in how we tackle these systemic issues.
