I’ve been following the case of Traveyon Hairston, and it’s a stark reminder of how vulnerable our young people can be. My heart aches for his family, especially his mother, Katrina Walton, who has shown incredible strength during such an unimaginably difficult time. I can’t help but think about what he went through that evening, seeking help and feeling scared. One thing that's been on my mind is the security at events like the Central Carolina Fair where this whole tragedy began. If Traveyon felt he was being followed, what measures were in place to ensure his safety? Should there be more patrols or better surveillance at these types of events? It’s important that we take a hard look at how we can prevent something like this from happening again to another family. I truly hope that the community of Greensboro comes together not just to support his family but to push for changes that might protect other young people. Traveyon deserved to feel safe. My thoughts are with everyone affected by this senseless act, and I hope justice is served soon for Traveyon and his loved ones.
