It makes me wonder how we can keep this momentum going to tackle the larger issue of gun violence that took such a bright soul from us. It's so upsetting to think about the circumstances leading up to Nivia's death. I recently read about how she was suspended for defending her younger brother, showing what a caring and protective sister she was. It just breaks my heart to learn that such a kind act set off the chain of events leading to this tragedy. It’s admirable how she stood up for her brother, but it’s also a stark reminder of how complicated and difficult these situations can be.
