I’ve been thinking about the house on Saratoga Street where the standoff happened. It must have held so many memories for the neighborhood, and then one day, it's the site of something so tragic. I can't imagine what it was like for the residents living nearby, watching all of this unfold and knowing their own home could have been the next target. It’s chilling to think about how Sergeant Porteous and those officers walked into danger to protect others, not knowing they'd face such a violent outcome. I hope the community was able to find some peace in time, but it's hard to believe that moments like this don't linger for those who live close by. My heart goes out to Sergeant Porteous's family and friends who had to deal with both the personal loss and the public spectacle of it all.
