I've been thinking about how terribly shocking Captain Ariant's death must have been for his family and community back in 1904. It's chilling to imagine the tense atmosphere in that bullpen area, and how quickly everything must have unfolded. I wonder what safety measures, if any, were in place at the time to prevent such incidents. His death must have sent shockwaves through the corrections system, prompting long overdue conversations about officer safety. It's hard to fathom the bravery it took to step into such a volatile environment each day, knowing the risks. My thoughts go out to his descendants and the families of all corrections officers who risk so much to maintain order. How these brave souls are often overlooked in the broader law enforcement narrative is truly unfortunate.
