Does anyone here have more info on the types of security measures in place at Angola back in 1906 or how they might have changed after Captain Block's death? I've been reading up on the case, and it just breaks my heart thinking about the risks these officers took on a daily basis. It's hard to imagine what his family and fellow officers must have gone through. From what I've gathered, it seems like Captain Block was dedicated to his job, and it's so tragic that a job meant to protect others ended up costing him his life. I'm hoping the incident brought about some positive changes in the long term. Would love to hear any insights or historical context from those who know more about the early 20th-century prison systems.
Does anyone else find it strange how quickly the convicts managed to take Captain Block by surprise during the escape attempt? It really makes you wonder about the security measures in place at Angola State Prison back then. It's so tragic that such a dedicated officer lost his life while doing his duty. Captain Block's family must have been devastated by this senseless loss. I hope this incident back in 1906 eventually led to better protocols and training for officers. We owe it to them to ensure safer working conditions. Anyone have any insights into how this event changed things at Angola or similar facilities at the time?
