I've been reflecting on the tremendous bravery Patrolman Paul "Butch" Persigo demonstrated during the tragic events at the Howard Johnson's hotel. It's truly extraordinary how he put himself in harm's way to protect the civilians caught in the crossfire of Mark Essex's horrific actions. The courage it took to try and clear civilians while knowing the imminent danger is hard to fathom. I can't imagine what his family and fellow officers went through during those days. It's important that we remember his heroism and dedication. Persigo’s selflessness is a stark reminder of the invaluable sacrifices law enforcement officers make every day. While the pain of his loss lingers, his legacy of bravery continues to inspire those who knew him and even those of us just learning about his story. Keeping his family and loved ones in my thoughts.
