I've been reading up on the tragic events surrounding the Howard Johnson shooting and can’t help but think about the toll it must have taken on the hotel staff, both emotionally and mentally. Frank Schneider, being an assistant manager, would have been a familiar face to many of his coworkers and hotel guests. He probably worked long hours, dealt with all sorts of situations, and ensured guests had a pleasant stay. It's devastating to imagine that what started as an ordinary workday turned into such a nightmare. I can't stop wondering how his colleagues were affected, not just in the immediate aftermath, but in the years that followed. Being part of such a horrific experience can have lasting effects, and support for trauma wasn't as widely recognized back then. My thoughts are with all of them, and I hope they’ve found some peace in the years since.

I've always felt that the forgotten stories amid large tragedies need more attention. Frank Schneider's role during those terrifying moments at the Howard Johnson Hotel is particularly haunting to me. As an assistant manager, I'm sure he was trying to keep guests safe and calm under the most unimaginable circumstances. I can't help but think of the decisions he had to make and the sheer chaos he was faced with trying to protect others. This tragic loss didn't only affect the city, but also left a void in the lives of his family, friends, and the hotel staff who knew him well. My heart goes out to them, as well as to the other families who experienced this senseless violence. How do we, as a society, ensure that the memory of victims like Frank is honored and not overshadowed by the notoriety of their killers?

I've been thinking a lot about how chaotic and terrifying it must have been at the Howard Johnson Hotel during those two days in January 1973. It's so difficult to imagine being trapped in a place where any corner might be your last. My heart goes out to Frank Schneider's colleagues and those who were staying at the hotel at the time. Can you imagine working alongside someone for years, only to have such a sudden and violent end? It’s so tragic that Frank and others had their lives cut short in this nightmare. I genuinely hope that those who lived through it were able to find peace and healing as best they could. Also, the bravery of the responders who had to face that situation head-on is commendable. It's a sad reminder of how hatred can lead to unspeakable violence, affecting so many lives in the process.
