Having read more about Officer Alva Ray Simmons’ case, I can't help but feel for his family and those who knew him. Being shot and then enduring those awful complications is something no family should have to go through. It's incredible to think that, even after surviving in a coma for nearly two decades, his loved ones continued to support him and keep his memory alive all those years. My heart goes out to his wife and sons for their strength and resilience through such a long ordeal.
One thing that struck me was how dedicated Officer Simmons was to his duty, despite the dangers. As a Vietnam War veteran and police officer, he clearly devoted his life to serving and protecting others. I think it’s important for us to remember not just the sacrifice he made that day in 1985, but also his commitment and service throughout his life.
Anyone else looking into this case? Thoughts on how it’s impacted the NOPD and the community in the years since?
