I've been reading up on the tragic case of Barry Seal, and something really struck me about his assassination. It seems like his murder wasn't just about silencing an informant—it was a loud message from the Medellín Cartel to anyone else who dared to threaten their operations. It's chilling to realize the incredible risks individuals like Seal took during this drug war. Knowing that Bernardo Antonio Vazquez, one of Seal's killers, got life without parole makes me wonder about the other players in this intricate scheme. Were there ever any credible threats to Vazquez's life in prison, seeing as how cartels have influence even behind bars? The entanglement of international cartels with local law enforcement must have been daunting, and I can only imagine the sleepless nights Seal’s family had knowing he was on a cartel hit list. My thoughts are with them as they continue to deal with their loss. What an unbelievable tangle of danger and deceit.
