I can't stop thinking about the students at John McDonogh High School, especially the ones who were affected by the shooting after Hillard Smith's death. I can't imagine what it must have been like for those three young women who were wounded and the pregnant senior who was trampled in all the chaos. It seems like the violence had such rippling effects, even beyond the immediate victims, and left so many people traumatized. There's just a whole other layer of tragedy when schools, supposed to be safe places, get caught in the turmoil of outside conflicts. I hope the school and the community have been able to offer some comfort and resources to help these students heal. This cycle of violence really needs to be broken; it doesn't just end with the immediate victims but touches everyone around them. My thoughts are with all those who have suffered because of these terrible events.
