I’ve been following the Milton Bourgeois case, and my heart goes out to his wife Ann and all the families impacted by this senseless tragedy. It's haunting to think about how unpredictable and dangerous someone can become when they're living with untreated mental health issues. I’m especially struck by the fact that this rampage affected so many people in the community—family, friends, colleagues, and even those who provided care at the hospital where Freeman had worked. I can't even begin to imagine the emotional healing process for the survivors like Ann and Louis Phillip Gouaux. They not only lost loved ones but also went through life-threatening ordeals themselves. Having someone survive such a close encounter with violence and then continue to live with that memory is just unimaginable. I find myself thinking a lot about how communities can come together to support survivors and honor those lost, while also recognizing warning signs in people who might need mental health intervention. How can further tragedies like this be prevented? It feels like a conversation we need to keep having. Anyone else here involved in community efforts for mental health awareness or victim support groups? Would love to hear how others are channeling their grief and efforts into something positive.
