It’s been over eight years since the loss of Khallid Mohammed, and reading about the case still deeply affects me. I can't help but think about how the French Quarter, a place meant to be full of life and celebration, became the setting for such a tragedy. It's such a vivid example of how quickly things can go wrong. I often think about the role of the community in bringing the suspects to justice. The cooperation between local businesses providing surveillance footage and witnesses coming forward was crucial in piecing together what happened that night. It's a reminder of how important it is for communities to work with law enforcement, despite the current challenges and mistrust that sometimes exist. Every time I walk down those streets, I am reminded of Khallid, and I hope that his story pushes us all to strive for a safer community. My thoughts are with his family; I can't imagine what it’s like to carry on after such a devastating loss.
