Hey everyone, I've been following the case of Derick Askins and wanted to discuss something that's been on my mind. I recently read a bit more about the neighborhood where the incident took place, and it just makes me wonder about the impact of community resources, or the lack thereof. Plaquemine isn’t always in the spotlight, but it seems like there's a lot that could be done to support the area, especially for young people. It’s upsetting to think about how many lives are affected by violence, and how communities often have to bear the brunt with limited support. I hope Derick’s case can be a catalyst for more community outreach and development projects. It would be great to see initiatives that bring about real change and offer alternatives and support for the local youth. Does anyone know if there’s been any movement on this front since the tragic incident? It’d be important to keep pushing for that change in memory of Derick. Sending strength to his family and friends. ? Stay safe, everyone.

I was thinking about how tragic it must have been for Derick's family to receive the news of his passing on Thanksgiving evening. A day that's supposed to be about gratitude and family turned into a nightmare for them. I grew up not too far from Plaquemine, and it's heartbreaking to hear about another young life taken too soon in our community. I wonder how many more families have to suffer before something changes. I remember my cousin mentioning that he ran into Derick a couple of times around town, saying he was always friendly and had a bright smile. It's hard to comprehend that someone could do this to him. This case really underscores the need for better intervention programs and community support to prevent violence. Sending love and strength to Derick’s family during this unimaginably difficult time. Derick's legacy should be one of fostering peace and unity, not just another statistic. Let's hope for justice and change.
