I’ve been reading through the threads about Jaquarrius Holland, and one thing that really struck me is the way friends described her passion for makeup and styling. It’s so moving to hear about her being called the “eyelash queen” by her friend Chesna Littleberry. It sounds like Jaquarrius had such a unique way of expressing herself and brought joy to those around her, even amidst the difficulties she faced with housing and employment. It's devastating that her love for these things and her vibrant personality were overshadowed by such a violent act. It makes me think about how important it is to remember and celebrate these aspects of a person's life. The trial for Malcolm Harvey can’t undo what happened, but I hope justice will stand for Jaquarrius. My thoughts are with her friends and family as they cope with this unimaginable loss. It’s a stark reminder of the necessity to both amplify and protect the voices and lives of transgender people, especially women of color who are so often targeted. If anyone has thoughts on how we can support organizations fighting against this kind of violence, I’d love to hear about it.
