I came across this case a while back, and I keep thinking about Tanner's love for music and basketball. It’s truly a testament to the person he was, full of passion and life. For those close to him, his humor and creativity must have filled their days with laughter and inspiration. It’s hard to fathom the pain his friends and family must be feeling, losing someone so young and full of potential. The ripple effect of this tragedy on the Denham Springs High School community must be immense. Tanner's presence will certainly be missed in the halls, on the court, and in the lives of everyone who had the chance to know him. I hope those who loved him can find some comfort in the memories they shared and in the support of their community during such an unimaginable time. If anyone knows of ways to support the Ernest family or the school community in his memory, please share. We need more spaces where young people feel safe and supported, and where help is always just as available as a kind word or a joke.

Does anyone else find it baffling that Dakota Theriot targeted an entire family that took him in during his time of need? The Ernest family seemed incredibly generous and compassionate, providing him shelter and a sense of belonging. It's just so hard to wrap my head around how someone could turn on people who were trying to help him. Tanner, Summer, and Billy deserved so much better than this senseless act of violence. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain their friends and family are going through right now. No one should have to endure such a loss—especially at the hands of someone they welcomed into their home. This case really drives home the importance of recognizing the signs of domestic issues early on and finding interventions that might prevent such tragedies. My heart goes out to everyone affected, and I hope they find some peace in the midst of all this chaos.
