I’ve been following the case of Ronald "Pookie" Eddington III and his sister, Mekia Smith, and I can’t stop thinking about the community’s response. It’s truly inspiring to see how the neighborhood came together after such a devastating loss. There have been vigils, rallies, and discussions about tackling gun violence, which shows the strength and resilience of the people there. It’s incredibly touching but also underscores how much work needs to be done to prevent these tragedies. I really hope this community-driven momentum can lead to some meaningful changes. My heart goes out to Ronald and Mekia’s family and friends, who’ve lost so much but are still fighting for justice and peace.

Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about the heartbreaking Marrero shooting from a few years ago. Ronald "Pookie" Eddington III and his little sister, Mekia, taken from us so suddenly—it’s hard to wrap my head around it. Something that really struck me about this case was the courage of the 11-year-old girl who survived. I can't even imagine the trauma that she and the 18-year-old survivor have been enduring since that day. The resilience of these young individuals is absolutely incredible, even in the face of such a horrendous event. It's easy to point fingers at the perpetrators—and rightly so—but let’s not forget about supporting the survivors. Their lives have been altered forever. Sending lots of strength to everyone affected by this tragedy. If anyone knows how the survivors are doing these days, I'd love to hear it. We often focus on the tragedy itself, but the aftermath and healing process are crucial too. Stay safe, everyone.

Has anyone else been following the involvement of the local community in the aftermath of the Sorbonne Drive tragedy? It's really moving to see people in Marrero coming together to support Ronald Eddington and little Mekia's family. From what I’ve read, local vigils and memorials have provided some solace for the grieving family members, but it's clear they're facing a long road ahead. I can't imagine the pain of losing two precious lives in such a horrific way. It's truly admirable how neighbors and friends have come forward to help with everything from organizing community fundraisers to just being there for the family in their time of need. It's a tragic reminder of how important community support can be following such a terrible event, and it’s crucial that we continue to raise awareness and find ways to prevent gun violence from tearing more families apart. Thoughts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.
