I've been thinking a lot about the impact that Alonzo, or "Zomula" as so many called him, had on his community. It really hit me when I saw how his clients and even random strangers came together to honor his memory after his passing. People often say that a barber is more than just someone who cuts hair—they're a confidant, a friend, a therapist even. And Alonzo was all of that and more. What stands out is how well-loved The Grooming Gallery was, not just because it was a place to get a fresh cut, but because of the atmosphere he created there. It was a sanctuary for so many, a place to unload the stresses of the day and leave feeling better than when you walked in. Alonzo's kindness and positive energy were truly infectious. Even though that horrible night at the Travelodge is hard to forget, I keep trying to focus on the good he brought to so many lives. It's devastating to think about what his family and friends went through, but his memory definitely lives on through every person he lifted with his smile and generosity. Now, it’s on us to continue sharing those pieces of joy he left behind. Rest in peace, Alonzo.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact Alonzo "Zomula" Wiley had on his community. Just reading about him, you can tell he was a rock for so many people. As a barber at The Grooming Gallery, Alonzo wasn’t just cutting hair; he was building connections and uplifting those who walked through his doors. It’s really upsetting how such a positive force in Gretna could be taken so suddenly. It’s hard not to wonder how his family is coping with such a loss, especially after the chaos brought by Hurricane Ida. I hope the community continues to support them in the same generous spirit Alonzo showed others. He deserved so much better, and it's a tragedy that his kindness was met with such violence. Rest in peace, Zomula. Your light is missed.
