I was reading about the tragic case of Sergeant John P. Shine and couldn’t help but feel deeply for his family, especially his wife, Margaret, and young daughter, Annie. To think of them losing a husband and father so suddenly and violently is profoundly sad.
I came across an interesting article from that period which mentioned the support Margaret received from the local community and fellow police officers. It seems the Chicago Police Department and neighbors really rallied around them after John’s passing. It's comforting, at least, to know that they weren’t completely alone during such a challenging time, and that his service and dedication weren't forgotten by those he served with.
Does anyone know if there were any lasting tributes or memorials for Sgt. Shine in the years after his passing? I’d love to learn more about how his legacy was honored or remembered in the Chicago area.
