Hey everyone, I've been doing some digging into the tragic case of Officer Patrick Melia, and I keep coming back to the patrol patterns around the Santa Fe Railroad yard at the time. It raises a question for me: Was Officer Melia patrolling that area alone or with a partner that night? I read that a lot of officers during that era often worked solo, but given the high-risk area and recent thefts, you'd think there might have been some backup or additional oversight. Not blaming anyone, just trying to understand the circumstances better. It must have been so daunting to face such dangers, especially alone. As we're remembering Officer Melia's bravery, it really makes me grateful for all those who put their lives on the line day in and day out. If anyone has any more info or sources about early 1900s patrol procedures, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. Stay safe, everyone.

Has anyone else been curious about Steve Orth's role in all this? It's so sad to see how this tragic event unfolded. From what I gathered, Orth was implicated by Zacek but ended up with a life sentence. I can't help but wonder about his perspective and what kind of involvement he really had that night. Was he actively participating, or was he caught up in something he didn’t fully anticipate? The impact this must have had on Officer Melia's family is unimaginable. I hope they found some semblance of peace knowing justice was served, even though it can't undo the loss they suffered. What do others think about Orth's involvement and the legal outcomes?
