I recently delved into the case of Fred Hampton's murder, and something that keeps sticking with me is the role of the FBI's COINTELPRO in all this. It's painful to think about how a government program could be used so aggressively against someone pushing for justice and equality. Fred was only 21, yet he had such a profound impact on bringing communities together. It's troubling to learn about federal agencies targeting him because they viewed his efforts as a threat. Was there ever a chance for him to be seen for the visionary leader he was rather than a radical? The fear of change and how it's managed by those in power seems relevant even today. My thoughts are with Fred's family and loved ones who have had to carry this pain.
