I’ve been revisiting the case of Milton Johnson, and something that always stands out to me is the immense bravery of the Will County Sheriff's auxiliary deputies, Denis Foley and Steven Mayer. They were out there every day, serving their community with dedication and commitment. It’s so unsettling to think about how they, along with Richard Dewey Paulin, fell victim to such a senseless act of violence. Thinking about their families and the trauma they must have endured breaks my heart. It's important to remember the people behind these stories—their lives, dreams, and the loved ones they left behind. The way the community came together afterwards, demanding justice and support for the families, really showed the strength and resilience of Joliet. Let’s keep their memories alive and always stand vigilant against threats to our safety.
