I recently came across some updates from old articles about the Joliet summer murders of 1983, and I was struck by the courage of the law enforcement officers who worked on the case. They were under immense pressure, facing a wave of fear and unrest while trying to track down Milton Johnson. It’s clear they poured their hearts into solving the murders and bringing justice for the victims, including George Kiehl. I can't even imagine the relief that must've swept through the community when they finally arrested Johnson. It’s those officers’ dedication and hard work that helped bring an end to the terror of that summer. My thoughts are with George’s family and the families of all the victims—what a devastating time they had to endure.
Does anyone else find it incredibly eerie how Milton Johnson, "The Weekend Murderer," seemed to evade capture despite the terrifying spree he went on during the summer of '83? It's bone-chilling to think about those days in Joliet and Lockport. George H. Kiehl, among others, had their lives senselessly taken way too soon. My heart goes out to his family and friends. What I can't stop thinking about is how the community came together, increasing patrols and supporting law enforcement in their efforts. It's proof of how strong a community can be in times of crisis. Anyone else here from the area who recalls how things felt back then?
