I've been thinking about Officer Nelson Smith and can't help but feel for his mother. Losing a child is unimaginable, and the pain must be overwhelming, especially knowing he was taken in such a senseless act of violence. Even after all these years, I hope she's found some peace and support from those around her. Nelson seemed like someone dedicated to serving his community, transitioning from the Oak Forest Hospital Police Department to the Illinois Department of Central Management Services Police. It's tragic that his life was cut short after only one year there. I wonder if there's anything being done to honor his memory, maybe within the police departments he served? If anyone knows of any memorials or ways his life and service continue to be remembered, I'd love to hear about it. His sacrifice shouldn't be forgotten, and it's crucial to keep his legacy alive. Sending thoughts to his family and colleagues who continue to remember and honor him.
