I’ve been thinking a lot about the resilience of the NIU community in the wake of the tragedy on February 14, 2008. Ryanne’s story especially strikes a chord with me. Even though I never knew her personally, it’s clear she had such a vibrant aura, filled with compassion and a genuine desire to help others through her goal of becoming a counselor. Her life, though cut short, serves as a beacon for many who aim to make a difference in their communities. In the years since the shooting, I've noticed how the focus on mental health awareness and campus safety seems to have gained momentum, and I can't help but think that Ryanne is part of the reason we’re seeing these necessary conversations. The dedication of her family and others to promote change is inspiring. Whenever I think about the loss, I also try to reflect on how we might create safer educational environments and how we can better support each other to prevent similar events. Sending heartfelt thoughts to everyone who knew and loved Ryanne, and the whole NIU community. Your strength doesn’t go unnoticed.

Hello, everyone. I've been reflecting on Ryanne Mace's story, and one detail that stands out to me is her deep desire to help others as a future counselor. The loss is not just of a daughter, a student, or a friend, but of someone who could have profoundly impacted the lives of people she intended to guide and support. Ryanne's ambition to uplift those around her speaks volumes about her character and the immense void left by her absence. It's such a painful reminder of how senseless violence robs the world of potential goodness. It's hard not to imagine the positive influence she would have had in the field of psychology and beyond. Sending my thoughts to her family and friends as they continue to navigate life without her. Being united in memory and purpose can help bring about the changes she once aspired to make.
