I'm still processing the senseless loss of this young life. Miguel Navarette was just a kid, only 15, standing outside on that January day, surrounded by people who cared about him. I can't even imagine what it must have been like for those kids who were there—just a regular day suddenly torn apart by violence. And for his family, the pain must be unimaginable. It's been years since this happened, yet the details still haunt me. The idea that someone so young could be drawn into such a dangerous world is terrifying. The cycle of gang violence doesn't just claim lives; it leaves a trail of trauma and heartbreak that stretches across entire communities. It's a harsh reminder of the many families living in fear every day, families that deserve so much better. Miguel should have had a future filled with possibilities. Instead, his life was cruelly cut short. As a community, we need to find ways to protect our youths and give them the opportunities to thrive away from violence. My thoughts are with his family and those who knew him as they continue to navigate life without him.
