Hey everyone,
I've been following the Terrence Harris case, and I wanted to get some thoughts on the role that crisis intervention training (or lack thereof) played in this tragedy. I've read different opinions about how this training might have helped de-escalate the situation more effectively and maybe even saved Terrence's life.
Given Terrence's bipolar disorder and the distressing state he was reportedly in, could better crisis intervention have made a difference that night? It's so disheartening to see families like Terrence's dealing with such immense grief and frustration. I can't stop thinking about his mother, Lenora, and what she must be going through after losing her son in this devastating way.
Do you think the police were inadequately prepared for handling a case like Terrence's, or do you believe there's more to consider here? What are some actual steps that could be taken to improve how law enforcement responds to mental health crises? I've seen other cities implementing specific training sessions—could that be a viable solution for places like Chicago? It's clear something needs to change to ensure safer outcomes for everyone involved. Interested to hear your insights!
