I've been following the case of David E. Finney, and while it's hard to wrap my head around the tragedy itself, what really strikes me is the neighborhood context. Morgan Park, like so many neighborhoods, is often thought of as a community where people look out for each other. The fact that something like this could happen there hits home just how much domestic issues can go unnoticed until it's too late. While we do know that James Finney was charged with first-degree murder, the details around their relationship are still murky. It's unsettling to think that two people who lived so close to one another couldn't find a way to de-escalate before things turned fatal. I'm particularly interested in how neighborhoods can better support individuals who might be in volatile situations before they reach a breaking point. Resources and awareness are key, but are they really accessible or visible enough? This is yet another wake-up call that maybe we all need to be more proactive in fostering environments where people feel safe to seek help. My heart goes out to David’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. It's another all-too-real reminder of how sudden and irrevocable these acts of violence can be.
