Has anyone else been struck by how senseless this tragedy in Chicago really is? I've been thinking about the environment Lavell Southern grew up in—balancing football, church activities, and school, seemingly staying on a positive path. To have his life cut short while out celebrating with friends is just incomprehensible.
Reading about how Lavell played a vital role at his church and seeing his family and community struggle to come to terms with his loss really highlights how much of a void he's left behind. He was someone who contributed positively to those around him, and it's so unfair that gun violence ended his life this way.
Why is it always the good ones we lose? I'm hoping and praying for justice for Lavell and peace for those who loved him. Chicago, like many other cities, needs to do more to address these senseless acts of violence.
