I've been thinking a lot about the car Jontaye Walker was working on when he was attacked. It's so heartbreaking that something as ordinary as helping out with car troubles turned into such a tragic event. Witnesses mentioned that Jontaye was fixing the brakes on his girlfriend's car, something so routine and mundane that it highlights how unexpected and senseless his death was. It's hard not to imagine him just going about his day, doing what any of us might do for a loved one, and then having his life cut short in such a brutal way. My thoughts go out to his family and girlfriend—they must be suffering so much. It's a grim reminder of how unpredictable life can be, and how the violence in some areas escalates to such terrifying extremes. What gets to me is how such a small act of kindness—working on his girlfriend's car—ended with a life lost. It just doesn’t make any sense and really highlights how random and awful street violence can be. I hope justice can bring some solace to those who loved Jontaye.
