Has anyone else been reflecting on the effectiveness of predictive policing in cases like Daniel Alcantara's? It's so sad knowing that he was identified as high-risk and was even offered help to leave the gang life, yet nothing seemed to change. Despite the efforts made by police with warnings and predictive strategies, it feels like we're still losing young people to these tragic cycles of violence. It must be incredibly frustrating for law enforcement, but even more devastating for Daniel's family and friends who have lost a loved one. I can't help but wonder if there are better support systems that could be implemented to guide those on lists like the "strategic subject list" towards safer futures. Sending strength and love to all those affected by this senseless loss.
I've been following Daniel Alcantara's case and what strikes me most is how young he was. Being only 20 years old, his life was just beginning, and it saddens me to think that the potential he had might never be realized. In all the discussions about gang violence and law enforcement tactics, I feel like the human aspect can sometimes get lost. Friends and family must be grappling with immense pain and grief, knowing the risks Daniel faced and still losing him to such a senseless act. It’s frustrating to see how deeply entrenched the cycle of violence is, especially in a vibrant, diverse neighborhood like Logan Square. Is there any way we, as a community, can support those who are struggling to leave this life behind, before it's too late? My heart goes out to everyone affected by this case.?️
