I was reading about Quincy Ware's case again, and something that really struck me was how important community support seems in these situations. I didn't know Quincy personally, but everything I've read says he was a kind soul who was always smiling. It’s so upsetting to think about the fear that must restrict people from coming forward with crucial information. How can we expect justice when it feels like witnesses are too scared to speak up?
I just can't stop thinking about Quincy's family and friends, who must be dealing with so much pain and frustration. His service in the military makes this even more upsetting to me. Quincy gave part of his life to serve his country, and it’s devastating that he didn’t get the chance to live out the bright future he surely had ahead of him. It feels like there’s much work to be done to build trust and safety within communities like East St. Louis so people feel safe enough to stand up and help solve these tragic cases. Holding space for everyone who misses Quincy today.
