I’ve been thinking a lot about the judge’s decision to rule the plea deal as improper in Garrison Collins’ case. It’s so clear how much this tragedy has affected everyone who knew him. While the law allows for a murder charge if a death occurs during a robbery, even with no intent to kill, this particular outcome feels so heavy. Collins was just trying to help someone he thought needed a hand, which says a lot about his character. Does anyone else find it painful how acts of kindness can sometimes end so horribly? I can’t imagine what his family, especially his brother Steve, are going through. It’s a loss that will probably never fully heal, and my heart goes out to them.

Just came across this case about Garrison "Butch" Collins, and one detail that really stands out to me is how trusting and generous he was. It's one thing to hear about a robbery gone wrong, but knowing that Butch was simply trying to help Samantha Gordon out with gas money just breaks my heart for his family. He seemed like someone who truly embodied kindness, being so involved with his church and giving to those around him. It really makes you think about how a moment of goodwill can turn so tragic because of others' intentions. I feel for his brother Steve and the rest of his family who have to relive this nightmare through every court proceeding. It’s such a senseless loss for the Peoria community. How do we even begin to heal from something like this? I hope they find peace in remembering the good he brought to so many around him.
