I've been thinking a lot about the security measures (or lack thereof) that were supposedly in place with the contractor hiring process for providers like the one at Hines VA Hospital. It's unsettling to think that someone with a history like Roger Scoby's was even allowed near vulnerable individuals like Tommie and Ira Moore. We entrust these hospitals to take care of our loved ones, yet something so tragic and utterly preventable happens. I've read that Scoby had prior convictions for violent crimes, and it's baffling how this wasn't flagged. It makes me wonder if this oversight happens more frequently than we realize? I hope that something good can come from this tragedy, perhaps prompting tighter background checks and hiring protocols to protect people better. My heart goes out to the Moore family, whose strength in the face of this devastating loss is truly admirable.

I’ve been following the Moore case closely, and something that really sticks with me is the bond Tommie and Ira shared, even while facing such overwhelming challenges. It just seems so unfair that, after navigating health issues together for years, their lives were taken so violently. To think about Ira relying on someone to get to his medical appointments and having that person turn against them is beyond upsetting. I can't help but think about the vulnerability of individuals who depend on service providers and how this tragedy might reshape how we vet those who work closely with vulnerable communities. This whole situation is a stark reminder of why we need rigorous background checks — not just for peace of mind but for the safety of those who have no choice but to trust others. My heart goes out to their family and neighbors; losing such compassionate souls in this manner must be unimaginably painful.
