I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of parenting and supervision in tragedies like what happened to little Justin Murphy Jr. I can’t imagine the pain his family must be going through. It’s terrifying how easily a day of playing could end in such a horrible tragedy. With all these cases of young people gaining access to firearms, it makes me wonder about how secure our homes are. Are we doing enough to keep these dangerous items out of reach? It's haunting to think of a child as young as 2 already subjected to the harsh realities of the world due to a mistake made during a supposedly innocent game. How can we, as a community, prevent another family from experiencing such a loss? Maybe there’s more that schools, community centers, and local organizations can do to educate not just kids but parents too about the perils of unsecured firearms. What are everyone’s thoughts on preventative measures we might take to avoid something like this happening again?
