Has anyone else been following Donte David Davis's case from 2007? It’s been weighing on my mind lately. Just thinking about how another young life was stolen due to the violence on Baltimore’s streets makes my heart ache for his family. From what I’ve read, Davis’s murder kind of got swept into the larger conversation about the city’s crime troubles, but it doesn’t seem right to let individual stories get lost in stats. Every one of those 281 victims that year should be more than just a number. What gets me is how people talk about needing change, but here we are, still seeing similar stories. I wonder how his family is coping, knowing his death was intertwined with these systemic issues. It’s frustrating to see the slow pace of progress on public safety and policy reforms. Anyone have thoughts on what’s being done now to finally break this cycle?
