I knew James in our teens and twenties, growing up in the Midwest. We attender school together and, later, became coworkers. Throughout this entire period, we were very close friends and I appreciate seeing that folks on here are still looking or trying to solve it has been happening here.

As far as driving a ways to a park, the James I knew would often do such a thing to get some space and take a moment for himself, but the fact that the had tank was supposedly empty upon arrival to the park is weird ...suggests possible syphoning imo. Just some food for thought there.

Thank you for sharing — especially the context about him driving to clear his head. The empty tank detail is a big red flag in this case. Hoping your post helps keep momentum and eyes on it.

Just been reading about James Earl Smith's disappearance, and something's been nagging at me. His family mentioned he was supposed to pick up dinner the night he disappeared. Does anyone know if there were any confirmed sightings or security footage of him the night he went missing? It's odd that there haven't been any reports on where he might have stopped on his way. It could potentially give us clues about his last whereabouts or even his state of mind before he vanished. Also, what was the weather like around that time? If it was raining heavily, it might have made tracking him (or finding bits of evidence) even more difficult. Just throwing thoughts out there... really hoping the family gets some answers soon.
Hey everyone, I’ve been following the case of James Earl Smith for a while and something that really puzzles me is the location where his car was found. Promontory Park isn't exactly a short drive from Portland, especially just to pick up dinner. It's about a 45-minute drive, even without traffic. Did anyone ever hear why he might have headed out that way? Seems like a pretty remote place to be found, especially if he was just running a quick errand. Was there any mention of a place he might have been going in that direction, maybe to meet someone or something? I feel like this part of the story is overlooked but could be vital in understanding why James ended up there. Any other thoughts or theories on what might have happened?
I keep wondering why James Earl Smith's car was found abandoned near Promontory Park. It's a bit off the beaten path, especially when you consider he left to pick up dinner. Did he take a detour for some reason? The location seems odd unless he had a specific reason to be out there. It makes me think there could have been someone else involved or maybe he planned to meet someone at the park. There must be more to unravel about why his car ended up there. Anyone familiar with the area, is it a place locals would go for any specific reason, or is it mostly just wilderness?
