Does anyone else find it strange how the neighborhood surveillance footage hasn't been mentioned much in the news regarding Albert Posey's tragic murder? I know it's a delicate situation, but it seems that with all the surveillance cameras around the Lower West Side, there must be some clips that could shed light on what really happened that night. My heart goes out to Mr. Posey's family, who must be going through so much pain right now. It's frustrating to think that such a senseless act of violence could happen at 4 a.m. when most people are safely at home sleeping. I hope the detectives can piece together all the evidence and bring some justice and closure to the Posey family.
I was thinking about the implications of the prosecutors deciding to charge Avelar while he was already out on bail for a felony gun charge. It really makes me wonder about how the justice system deals with repeat offenders and the conditions of bail. The fact that Avelar was not only out on bail but then allegedly involved in such a violent crime seems to highlight a significant flaw. It's so unsettling to think that this was potentially avoidable. My heart truly goes out to the Posey family—dealing with such a loss is hard enough without knowing it might have been prevented. I hope this leads to a re-evaluation of policies surrounding bail, especially for serious charges, and that perhaps we can prevent another tragedy like this.
