I've been following the heartbreaking case of Davarea "Tyianna" Alexander and her friend Brandon Chris, but something that really stings is the initial misgendering by the police. I understand mistakes happen, but these kinds of errors can be so hurtful and seem to reflect systemic issues. It feels like another layer of disrespect and invisibility for transgender individuals who already face so much. It's not just about correcting a mistake, it's about acknowledging and respecting someone's identity in life and in death. The lack of action or suspects identified in the investigation just adds to the sense of injustice and frustration. How can we hope for change when even basic respect for victims can be so absent? Sending love and strength to Davarea's and Brandon’s loved ones. We need to keep pushing for better systems and protections for the trans community.
