I've been thinking a lot about how this tragic event happened in such a seemingly ordinary setting. Jalen was just driving down South Damen Avenue at 1 a.m., something many of us have done late at night, thinking we’re safe inside a car with a friend. It just reminds me how random and unsettling gun violence can be, striking in moments when we least expect it. I can’t even imagine the trauma and fear that the woman with him must be dealing with, not to mention her physical injuries.
