I’ve been following the discussions about Tom McAdams’ disappearance, and something that really stands out to me is the role his memory loss might have played. It's just so puzzling! It makes you wonder about the mental challenges he might have faced while out on the trail. Could he have gotten disoriented and wandered off the path? And if so, how far could he have realistically gone before exhaustion set in? I also think about how experienced of a hiker he was—surely, some of those instincts would kick in, even if his mind was foggy. But then again, if he was struggling more than people realized, maybe experience wasn’t enough. It’s such a complex situation and raises questions about how much we should rely on memory, no matter the level of skill and experience. It’s just tragic to think about him out there, possibly confused, without any form of communication to ask for help...

I've been following Tom McAdams' case for a while, and something's been bugging me about his disappearance from Horsetail Falls. Some people have pointed out he was an experienced hiker, which might explain why he went off-trail if that's what happened. But what about the memory loss issues he'd been experiencing? Could he have simply gotten disoriented, even in familiar territory? I remember discussing with some other hikers how easily you can lose your bearings in the Gorge, even for those of us who know it well. If Tom wandered off the beaten path because of confusion, it's possible he ended up in an area that was too remote or dangerous for searchers to reach or even consider. The fact that no evidence was found despite such a massive search effort is perplexing. It makes me wonder if there are areas of the Gorge that are tougher to access than we think or if there could be hidden hazards that aren't well-known to the public. Has anyone else familiar with the area noticed any strange or unexplored spots that search teams might have missed?
