Reading about Benjamin Dawkins' tragic death, it's so hard not to think about the impact on his family and loved ones. I can't imagine the heartache they're going through right now. I saw a few folks say that Benjamin was a beloved community member, always quick to lend a hand or share a smile. It makes you wonder how these senseless acts of violence continue to rob us of good people. I was thinking about the other man who was injured with him. It must be incredibly terrifying and frustrating for him to be in critical condition and unable to help identify the shooter. I hope he recovers and can find some peace in all this chaos. Chicago's been dealing with this rise in violence, and the numbers can be overwhelming, but we can't become desensitized to it. Each name and story, like Benjamin's, should remind us of the individual lives affected. Hoping that sharing these stories somewhere helps prevent the next tragedy. Stay safe, everyone.
