I've been following Deon Whittaker's case closely, and something that's been on my mind is the lack of security cameras in the area where he was killed. Given the high crime rate in East Saint Louis, you’d think there would be more surveillance to help deter violence and aid investigations. It's really troubling that there’s no footage to help solve Deon's murder—surveillance could have been a crucial piece in the puzzle. My heart goes out to Deon's family and friends; I can't imagine the frustration of not having answers. I hope the community and local officials push for better safety measures so we can prevent tragedies like this in the future. If anyone knows about local initiatives or efforts to improve public safety, please share. It’s time to come together and find ways to protect our community.
