Has anyone else been following John Alden Malloch's case? I came across it while looking into old missing persons reports, and the fact that he was legally blind really struck me. I can't imagine how challenging it must have been for him to navigate the world with such limited vision, especially back in the 1960s. It makes me wonder if his blindness played a role in his disappearance or if someone could have taken advantage of his vulnerability. It’s so mysterious that he seemed to vanish without a trace even after two thorough searches. Does anyone know if his military service or injuries might have put him in a specific position where he would be more vulnerable or if he had enemies from that time? ?️♀️

I recently stumbled upon the John Alden Malloch case from 1965, and something that caught my attention was how vulnerable he would have been, wandering around at night in his condition. Being legally blind and only wearing bedroom slippers... it just seems like an odd choice if he planned on being out for long. Did he think he was stepping out for just a minute, perhaps? Maybe he didn’t intend to go far from the house, or he might have gotten disoriented quickly due to his poor eyesight. Given his status as a WWII vet, I wonder if there could be elements of PTSD or anxiety that potentially contributed to his movements that night. With no evidence or sightings, it’s hard to fathom how a person could just vanish. Are there any local rumors or theories from people in Waterville that might provide a new angle on this? Would love to hear if there's more info on what the acquaintance he was staying with noted about his state of mind that evening.
