Has anyone else heard about the community vigil held for William Pemberton in Morgan Park? I couldn't attend, but I saw some photos and videos online. It seems like so many people came out to show support for William’s family and to honor his memory. The unity in the community was really heartwarming to see, despite these tragic circumstances. I think gatherings like these are so important—they bring us together and remind us of our shared humanity. I hope they help bring a little comfort to his loved ones. If you attended, I’d love to hear your thoughts or any poignant moments that stood out. William’s story has touched so many of us.

I was reading about the tragic incident involving William Pemberton, and something that’s been really gnawing at me is the environment these kids were in that evening. They were just on the sidewalk around 7 p.m., probably discussing school, their weekend plans, or whatever usual teenage things they were into. It’s incredibly distressing to think that something as innocent and ordinary as standing with friends turned so disastrous. I can't help but wonder about the impact this has on kids their age in the neighborhood. It’s deeply concerning how this single act of violence can make an ordinary place and time suddenly feel dangerous and unsafe. I think more community support, counseling opportunities, and activities could significantly help these young people process this trauma and feel more secure in their own environment. My heart goes out to William’s family and the other teens caught up in this, but also to every young person in that community who now has to carry this burden of fear and loss. It’s so important that we put as much effort into healing and supporting them as we do into seeking justice.

I can't stop thinking about the location where this horrific event took place. The 11100 block of South Bishop Street is an area where neighbors often know each other, and hearing about such a violent incident there is truly unsettling. I feel for the families living in that neighborhood who send their kids to Shoop Academy every day, hoping they'll be safe and able to focus on their education. It’s a stark reminder of how gun violence can change lives in an instant. My heart goes out to the families of all the children involved, especially to those who knew and cared about William. It must be incredibly tough to navigate this reality with fear and uncertainty looming. We really need to support our communities in finding preventative solutions so tragedies like this can be avoided in the future.
