Has anyone else been following the discussions about police training programs after the Michael A. Craig case? I can't stop thinking about how things might have been different if the officers had been better equipped to handle situations involving mental health crises. It’s just heartbreaking to see how a lack of proper training can escalate situations so drastically. Clearly, there’s an urgent need for reform, not just in terms of policy, but also in practical training for officers who are the first to respond to these calls. I hope that this case, sad as it is, can push for the changes that are desperately needed to prevent such tragedies in the future. Thoughts?

Has anyone else been following the Michael A. Craig case and thinking about the training (or lack thereof) police officers receive in dealing with mental health crises? It’s tragic to think about how different things could’ve been if the situation was handled with more care and understanding. I feel so deeply for Mr. Craig and his family. The fact that he reached out for help and ended up losing his life is just devastating. How can we push for better de-escalation training and mental health awareness in the police force to prevent something like this from happening again? Craig’s story is a powerful reminder of the systemic changes needed in our community to prevent more families from experiencing such pain.
