Has anyone looked into the possibility that weather conditions that day were worse than initially reported? I've been researching March 1971 weather patterns in Maine, and it seems like the area around Frenchman’s Bay was experiencing unusually harsh winds and low temperatures. This might not seem like a big revelation, but if the weather reports were inaccurate or underestimated, it could have significantly affected the search and rescue operations. Maybe the poor visibility or extreme cold played a bigger role in why Melvin Murphy and the others were never found. It’s also possible that rougher seas on that fateful day could have contributed to the lobster trap rope getting tangled in the boat motor. Would love to hear any thoughts or insights from anyone familiar with the local maritime conditions back then!
