I was reading more about Caleb Westbrooks and couldn't help but think about how much potential this young man had. His teachers from Rauner College Prep spoke so highly of him, mentioning his infectious personality and constant smile that would light up any room. It's tragic that we lost someone with such a promising future to senseless violence. A friend of mine lived near Noble Square and often talks about how vibrant and hardworking the students from these schools are. They face so many challenges, including the ever-present threat of violence, and yet they strive to build better futures for themselves. Caleb seemed to embody that spirit, and his loss is a blow not only to his family but to everyone who believes in the potential of today's youth. I'm hoping the community and city officials can come together to address the root causes of this violence. We owe it to Caleb and all the other young lives cut short to create a safer, more nurturing environment for our kids. My heart goes out to Caleb's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. They deserve all the support and love they can get from us as they navigate such an unimaginable loss.
