I keep thinking about the community impact of Hector’s murder. Brighton Park has been grappling with crime for a while, but this took things to a whole new level. It’s incredible to see the community organizations stepping up and rallying for change and safety measures. These are folks who are genuinely trying to make the neighborhood a safer place for everyone. Hector’s story is a harsh reminder of how pervasive gun violence is right now. What’s especially troubling is the lack of progress in getting concrete leads or witnesses willing to talk. It makes you wonder how many people might know something but are too scared to come forward. We really need more people to feel safe enough to speak up to help bring some closure to his family. My heart goes out to them, and I hope they find the justice they deserve. If anyone has ideas on how we can support both the police and the community in cases like this, it would be great to hear them. They said it best—community cooperation is crucial.
