I can't stop thinking about the surveillance footage showing Anthony Heredia returning to the scene to pick up the shell casing after the shooting. The fact that he came back to retrieve evidence just sends chills down my spine. It makes me wonder about the mindset he was in. Did he really think he could get away with this?
It's haunting to consider how many factors played into this tragedy—not just the violence of the moment but also the sense of fear and desperation that might have driven someone to think this was a solution. Meanwhile, Tierra had already faced so much in her life, losing both parents and then trying to navigate her world virtually on her own. My heart goes out to her friends and any family members left behind; losing someone so young and with so much potential must be unimaginably painful.
This case makes me deeply reflect on the failures within our communities and the need for real change. Why are we constantly hearing about these situations where young lives like Tierra's are cut short over seemingly avoidable conflicts? I just can't wrap my head around why someone would think it's okay to involve a person like Anthony Heredia in a situation that should never have escalated beyond an argument. It's deeply disturbing that employees would reach out to someone for "backup" over something like a water-throwing incident. Why wasn't there a call to de-escalate instead? Tierra Franklin's tragic death could have been avoided at so many points, and it makes me so sad to see how the chain of events unfolded. My heart goes out to Tierra's loved ones and everyone affected by this senseless act. It’s frustrating to see how easily violence becomes an option when it should be the absolute last resort.
